Onion Sets

Our  current  list of  Onions for  2010..

Onion sets should be planted about 13cm/5” apart. For best results feed with liquid fertiliser during May & June & harvest from august onwards.  Onion sets are loose and £2.90 per kilo.

 

Centurion F1  One of the  earliest of the round type. It has excellent  skin and high yields. Suitable for medium term storage

Hercules F1    Mid season yellow/brown round bulbs. Good for storage. Low bolting. Strong  flavour.

Red Baron      An excellent, very dark coloured flat-round onion with rings right to the centre. Best planted early. Excellent for salads.

Setton            New improved sturon with higher yields and better storage. Mid season. High yielding variety.

Stur BC 20      Slow to sprout giving long storage life. Late season.

Sturon            A rounded onion which stores well with high yields. Mid season.

 

Stuttgarter Giant  A flat shaped yellow skinned set, with good  yield and keeping  qualities. Plant early.

 

SHALLOTS 2010

Shallotts should be planted about 13cm/5” apart. An application of a general fertiliser in May will encourage growth. harvest from July onwards.  Shallotts are loose and £3.75 per kilo.

Golden Gourmet  This improved yellow shallott can be planted in very early spring. It’s mild taste makes it excellent for pickling.

 

Picasso   This mild tasting red shallott with pink flesh is highly resistant to bolting. Excellent for  pickling. Excellent skin quality.

 

Pikant Red   One of the earliest shallotts. Its resistance to bolting means it can be planted 4 weeks earlier than other shallotts.

 

Red Sun   This mild shallott is round in shape and recognised for its  storage  characteristics. Perfect for salads.

 

Topper    Excellent skin quality and resistant to bolting and so can be planted out early which enables it to mature early.

 

Yellow Moon  A new shallott with excellent  skin quality. Round shape and high resistance to bolting. Disease resistant yellow.

 

GARLIC PREPACK

Garlic Marco £1.99 (3)  Distinctive strong flavour, can be used fresh or stored for up to a year.  Eaten both cooked and  raw.

 

Elephant Garlic £2.49 (2)  Mild flavour, excellent for roasting or raw in salads. Yields very large bulbs.

 

Cristo £2.49 (3)  Strong flavour, white skin, pink cloves.

 

Dario £2.49 (3)  Mild flavour, excellent for roasting or raw in salads. Yields very large bulbs.

 

Arno £2.49 (3)  Medium Flavour

 

Solent Wight £2.49 (1)  Outstanding great flavour. Stores really well.

 

VEGETABLE PREPACK

Jerusalem Artichoke £2.49 (5)  Plant and lift  similar to potatoes.
